Dermal Fillers at CLC Aesthetics
Dermal fillers are a safe, non-surgical solution designed to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Most modern fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains water, keeping the skin hydrated and plump. Unlike older collagen-based fillers, HA fillers can be naturally broken down over time, and in rare cases, they can be safely dissolved or adjusted if needed.
As we age, the natural production of hyaluronic acid declines. This, combined with reduced skin elasticity, can lead to volume loss, sagging, and the formation of wrinkles. Dermal fillers help combat these changes, rejuvenating the skin and restoring a youthful, balanced appearance.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Using HA fillers, we can:
- Restore lost facial volume
- Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhance facial contours and definition
- Improve symmetry and balance
- Revitalise the skin and boost hydration
- Provide immediate, natural-looking results
Areas That Can Be Treated
- Mid-face / Cheeks: Restore volume loss in the cheeks and lift sagging skin, improving the overall mid-face structure and lower face appearance.
- Cheekbone Contouring: Sculpt and enhance cheekbones for definition and a more youthful silhouette.
- Temples: Replenish volume loss to soften hollows and support facial structure, helping to lift the outer brows and balance facial proportions.
- Under Eyes / Tear Troughs: Light filler can reduce hollowness, brighten tired-looking eyes, and smooth fine lines.
- Non-surgical Nose (Rhinoplasty): Correct minor bumps or depressions and refine the nasal tip without surgery.
- Nasolabial Folds / Smile Lines: Smooth lines from nose to mouth for a refreshed appearance.
- Marionette Lines / Jowls: Add support and volume to sagging lines from mouth to chin.
- Chin: Enhance chin shape and balance facial profile, whether creating a soft, feminine contour or a stronger, defined jawline.
- Jawline: Define the jawline and reduce the appearance of sagging.
- Lips: Add volume, improve shape, define the lip border and Cupid’s bow, and restore hydration to fine lip lines.
Treatment Process & Techniques
Dermal fillers can be administered using either a needle or a cannula, depending on the area and desired outcome. Cannulas are blunt-tipped, reducing trauma, swelling, and bruising while maintaining precision.
Before any treatment, a thorough consultation and assessment is carried out to ensure suitability, discuss expectations, and explain any risks. Topical numbing is applied, and most HA fillers contain a numbing agent for comfort. Additional comfort tools, like stress balls or vibration devices, are available during treatment.
Results are visible immediately, with optimal effects appearing once swelling subsides. On average, results last 6–18 months, depending on factors such as metabolism, lifestyle, treatment area, and product used.
Aftercare Guidelines
- Avoid makeup for 12 hours post-treatment
- Massage lips gently if lumps appear
- Use cold compresses intermittently to reduce swelling
- Apply arnica cream or gel if bruising occurs
- Avoid glasses resting on the nose for 48 hours after nose filler
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first 48 hours
- Avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, sunbeds, and heat for at least 72 hours
- Avoid blood thinners or NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) for 48 hours
Possible Side Effects
Mild side effects are common and usually temporary: redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or minor discomfort at the injection site. Rare side effects include lumps, asymmetry, infection, or allergic reactions. Severe complications, such as vascular occlusion, are extremely rare and are discussed during the consultation with strategies to prevent and manage them.
